January 28, 2017 – AROUND THE WORLD!

AROUND THE WORLD WEEK has been an amazing journey! We "traveled" to wonderful places all over the globe, like Australia, Italy, England, France, Egypt, and Japan. Oh the places we have gone and the things we have learned... We got our passports ready and off we went, flying many miles to reach our destination. With each stop, we got the most amazing stamp in our passport books! These will forever be a reminder of our journey around the world with our dearest friends! While in Japan, we learned all about the busy city of Tokyo. We learned "konnichiwa, doomo arigato, and sayonara" which mean good afternoon, thank you, and goodbye. The highlight of our trip was making our own sushi and painting cherry blossoms! When in Rome (or Venice ?) as they say...take gondola rides, walking tours, and indulge in delicious pasta and gelato. We did! During our brief stay [...]

January 21, 2017 – TRANSPORTATION WEEK!

During TRANSPORTATION WEEK, we were zipping and zooming while learning about the many different ways to travel! We discovered that we can get from here to there by land, sea, and air. Compiling a list of vehicles was the fun part! We thought of so many like cars, trains, planes, boats, trucks, buses, and even hot air balloons! Our creativity really took off, as we created airplanes made of clothespins and craft sticks, trains using egg cartons, stop lights, license plates, and so much more! We spent a lot of time building and constructing bridges and roadways to drive our cars and trucks on during playtime in our Let's Build centers. The "car wash" was open here at Square One and boy, did we get those cars squeaky clean! Our sensory tables also got transformed into mini highways and local streets using black beans, straws, pom poms, and of course...CARS! [...]

January 14, 2017 – ARCTIC WEEK!

ARCTIC ANIMALS WEEK took us on an exploration to the icy cold climates where these amazing animals live! We took a closer look at polar bears, walruses, beluga whales, arctic foxes, and penguins. Did you know that polar bears have black skin? And even though their fur appears white, it is actually transparent! While reading the book "Penguins", we learned that these birds do not fly! Penguins are excellent swimmers and divers though! We were blown away to find out the enormous size of walruses! They can weigh up to 3,000 pounds! Whoaaa!! In art, we created these animals using so many different materials. Using the facts we learned, helped us bring each of these creatures to life! As we created them, we talked about their features, like huge paws on polar bears which help them catch fish, and how the arctic fox's fur is brown in summer and white [...]

January 7, 2017 – SNOW WEEK!

SNOW WEEK was a blustery blizzard of fun! Did you know that when water freezes in the clouds and they get too heavy, snow comes falling down? We learned all about how snow forms and all the wonderful activities we can do in or with the snow. Most of us love to make snow angels and go sledding! We also learned that each and every snowflake is different and unique, just like us! We used colored ice cubes to paint a large mural for our Pre K classroom! The icy colors were so pretty as they melted onto the paper with each stroke. We made snowflake impressions using paint and pipe cleaners that quickly made our pages into a winter scene. Marshmallows were the perfect tool to paint snowmen in our Preschool class! We also created giant snowmen using doilies and made the cutest little wobbly penguins, strengthening our fine [...]

December 31, 2016 – HANUKKAH WEEK!

HANUKKAH WEEK was filled with fun games, stories, and songs! We discussed how Hanukkah is celebrated by lighting a candle on the menorah each of the 8 nights. We learned about the different foods eaten, like latkes and special jelly doughnuts. Yummy! We sang "Dreidel Dreidel" and learned how to play the dreidel game, as well. We had fun practicing how to spin the four-sided top. This was a game we would surely teach our families! During art, we used our hand prints, craft sticks, and paint to create menorahs and painted dreidels, too. We also created unique blue paintings using star shaped bows! We read books like "How Do Dinosaurs Say Happy Hanukkah", "There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Dreidel", and "Hanukkah Bear". These were fun stories that made us laugh, yet taught us much about the traditions of the Fesitival Of Lights. We hope you all [...]

December 24, 2016 – CHRISTMAS WEEK!

CHRISTMAS WEEK made us feel so festive, cheery, and filled with love! We spent a lot of time reading holiday stories that made us think about what Christmas is really all about. It's amazing how the season can make even the oldest of us, feel like small children again! Reading "How The Grinch Stole Christmas", "Polar Express", "'Twas The Night Before Christmas", and many others had us gleaming with excitement for the big day! We collaboratively wrote letters to Santa and signed our names. We wanted him to know how very excited we were and how much we loved him! Between our "Santa cam" and our Elf on the Shelf, we were pretty certain he knew we were behaving and being kind and respectful to our teachers and friends! We learned how to wrap presents, too! Imagine that? Toddlers carefully observing and then beautifully wrapping gifts! We created reindeer using [...]
