December 17, 2016 – GINGERBREAD WEEK!

GINGERBREAD WEEK was sweet! We learned gingerbread is a flavor that is sweet like sugar, but has a little spice from the ginger. After tasting it, we say it's just plain yummy! We learned a poem called " My Gingerbread House". In this poem, the children are describing how to construct a gingerbread house, but in the end they are not able to resist its sugary sweetness and they gobble it all up! We created life-size gingerbread kids by tracing our own bodies, constructed gingerbread houses, rolled out dough (play doh) and used cookie cutters of gingerbread men, used sponges to paint them rich shades of brown and tan, and even concocted puff paint as icing to decorate them! I think it's safe to safe this tasty treat was fun to make, smell, and taste! We read "Gingerbread Man", "Library Gingerbread Man", "Gingerbread Man Loose In The School", and many [...]

December 15, 2016 – HOLIDAY PARTY!

Last Thursday evening, we welcomed our families to our FIRST annual holiday party here at Square One! The turn out was amazing and the sheer joy in everyone's faces was simply wonderful! Our older toddlers-Pre K classes performed, singing holiday songs. Oh, how sweet each and every one of them looked up there on "stage"! They sang and danced (and called out to parents they saw!) and it just made the entire audience smile a huge heartfelt holiday smile! After the show, we invited our families to join us for desserts and refreshments. The children were thrilled to see such tasty treats like gingerbread men, cupcakes, and cookies galore! It was heartwarming to see the families gathering together and mingling with one another! And then they all heard something coming from the front door...it was SANTA!! He was right here in our school, coming to visit all these beautiful children! [...]

December 10, 2016 – WINTER WONDERLAND WEEK!

WINTER WONDERLAND WEEK has been a blustery blast! We talked about what we look forward to this winter and how we will be prepared for it! We've already imagined and planned how we will dress our snowmen, have huge snowball fights with our families, and enjoy some cozy time by the fire with hot cocoa! In fact, we made our own "fireplace" for our toddler room. Here, we can read stories together and stay toasty warm! We made winter wonderlands created with paint, Epsom salt, and glue. They looked like beautiful scenes from "Frozen"! Speaking of frozen, we also made snowflakes from Q-tips and our names in snow using marshmallows! You could hear our brrrrillant voices belting out tunes like "Icy Toes" and "Frost"! We also spent a lot of time practicing our winter songs for our upcoming holiday show! Books like "The Twelve Days of Winter", "Snowmen At Night", [...]

December 3, 2016 – HIBERNATION WEEK!

HIBERNATION WEEK taught us all about how some animals get ready for their big snooze every winter! We read "Hibernation", a simple yet informative book about what hibernation means, how the animals prepare for it, and which animals actually sleep the winter away. Animals like bears, bats, chipmunks, groundhogs, and frogs hibernate. We found out that even snails and ladybugs do, too! We talked about how many animals retreat to their dens, burrows, or hollow logs for protection and shelter during hibernation. They must first gather food and get their homes ready for their loooong upcoming rest! In the book "Somewhere to Sleep!", Bear was looking for just the right place to curl up for the hibernation season. That gave us an idea! So out to the playground we went to build our own cozy beds out of leaves. We constructed quite the comfy sleepy spots...ones that would be perfect [...]

November 26, 2016 – TURKEY WEEK!!

TURKEY WEEK has molded us into quite the turkey experts! We can now share many interesting facts about where they live, what they eat, and the unique characteristics that make them such interesting creatures! We spent the week giggling and gobbling and reciting turkey poems and singing turkey songs! We sang and recited, and recited and sang! We even practiced "turkey breathing" in yoga class! While reading books like "Turkey Trouble", "All About Turkeys", "A Plump and Perky Turkey" and many others, we heard about how many of these silly turkeys were trying to hide and disguise themselves so as not to be seen during Thanksgiving. This was so funny AND clever! We created more turkeys than you could possibly imagine, each one made with a unique technique and a variety of materials! Who knew we could all make these creatures come to life with lint rollers wrapped in bubble [...]
