Our Blog

ON THE FARM WEEK seemed to come to life with our discussions, stories, art, sensory activities, and a trip to the farm! We talked a lot about all the things we can get from the farm and how important farmers are to all of us. We made long lists of food grown and raised on farms, animals that live there, and the jobs done to keep a farm productive. We read "Pigs To The Rescue", " Lazy Daisy, Crazy Frankie", "Click Clack Moo-Cows That Type", "Funny Farm" and many others that had us giggling and singing along! We worked on our writing and cutting skills, phonics, and math using farm activity sheets and materials. We practiced picture/word recognition with farm pictures and worked on animal matching activities. Ms. Stephanie even created a barnyard sensory bin filled with hay, farm animals, and stable fences! Today was our field trip to Abma's Farm and boy, did we have fun! We love to ride on the big school bus so, the joy and laughter began before we even reached the farm! We had such a wonderful time riding the hayride to the pumpkin patch, picking out just the right pumpkin, indulging in delicious homemade donuts and apple juice and climbing on the tractor play place but, our favorite part was without a doubt feeding the animals!  They sure were cute and hungry!  What a great day!!

APPLES WEEK made us think a lot about one of our favorite snacks...and made us very hungry! We listed our favorite types such as Macintosh, Granny Smith, Honey Crisp, And Golden Delicious. We talked about apple picking trips and how there are so many varieties. The list we made of things we can make with apples was impressive! We read "It's Apple-Picking Time", "Applesauce Season", "Apple Pie Tree", "Apples A-Z", and "Fall Apples-Crisp and Juicy", all of which had our bellies growling. Lucky for us, we had an apple tasting...yummy!! We were eager to try new apples we hadn't ever had before; green, red, and yellow ones! Our creativity was in high gear this week! Who knew we could PAINT with apples?! We made apple prints, our favorite apples using tissue paper, Apple Jacks apple trees, and made apples come to life by creating apple people! FAMILIES WEEK gave us all the opportunity to share about our families and why we love them so very much! We discussed how they are similar and different from our friends' families. We counted how many family members live in our house (and we were EXCITED to include our furry family members as well!). The Preschool class was eager to share their favorite things to do as a family; going to the park, riding bikes, and going to the beach were just a few of the special things they do together. We read "The Family Book", "Franklin's Big Sister", "Froggy's Day with Dad",and "Are You My Mother". Story time is always a favorite time of the day, but being able to hear all about mommies, daddies, and siblings made our stories special for the children. ALL ABOUT ME WEEK taught us to be proud of who we are! We discussed how we are different in many ways, similar in other ways, and how important it is to love ourselves and be our best. We read "I'm Gonna Like Me", "I Like Myself", "I Can Be Anything", "When I Grow Up", and "From Head To Toe". These stories were to inspire us to stand proud and celebrate who we are! Some of the stories prompted a discussion on what we want to be when we grow up. We are proud to say we have some upcoming veterinarians, fairies, dentists, and mommies! In art, we traced our bodies on mural paper, wow, are we becoming big kids now...so big and tall! We created personalized mirrors so we could see and describe ourselves, too! WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL WEEK was full of all things new...new classrooms, routines, toys, lessons, and friends! Each class was bursting with big smiles (a few tears) and sheer excitement! The Pre K class learned a new school pledge and practiced the signs for "teacher", "school", and the letter "s". In the Discovery Center, they experimented with magnets and paper clips (all while wearing some super hero costumes, of course!).  The new school year jitters quickly disappeared after reading books like "If You Take A Mouse To School", "Pete The Cat Rocking In My School Shoes", and "The Kissing Hand".
