February 18th, 2017 – DENTAL HEALTH WEEK!
Throughout DENTAL HEALTH WEEK, we were smiling and showing off our pearly whites! We discussed how to take care of our teeth and gums to keep our gleaming smiles. We learned that there are healthy foods that help keep our teeth and bodies strong, as well as foods to avoid that can be harmful to our teeth. Do you know that you can get cavities, which are holes in teeth formed by decay? Yuck! Some of us were shocked to learn that all our teeth will fall out and new adult teeth will replace them! There was a silver lining to that news...The Tooth Fairy! We were tickled to learn about this amazing little fairy, who so happily collects our teeth that have fallen out and leaves us a treat!! A treat for loosing our teeth?? Whoa! We read books like "The Tooth Book", "I Have A Cavity", and "Snacks [...]

February 11, 2017 – VALENTINE’S DAY WEEK!
VALENTINES WEEK reminded us that we are surrounded by love! Sometimes it takes a special time to let others know how much we care, so all week, we have done just that! It was heart-warming to see all our friends being so kind and expressing how much we care about one another! Our focus was on kindness, love, and generosity. We discussed how to show and receive love and respect. We made lists of the people that mean the most to us. Our mommies and daddies were on top, of course! Our favorite things were also talked about, and wow, were these lists long! Spending time with family, going to the park, visiting friends, and going outside to play were a few of our absolute favorites. It was hearts galore in each of our classrooms. We used hearts for jumping during some gross motor activities. Our sensory bins were filled [...]
February 5, 2017 – FIVE SENSES WEEK!
FIVE SENSES WEEK began our in depth exploration of each of our senses. We discussed how seeing, touching, tasting, smelling, and hearing are part of our experiences every day. Each day this week, we focused on a different sense and explored the many ways each affected how we experience the world around us. Using our noses, we discovered so many different scents that we hadn't noticed before. Once we sat and focused on SMELLING, we began to smell so many interesting things. In our Pre K class, we had a "Guess The Scent" experiment while we were blindfolded! We took a sniff of several different mystery snacks and tried to guess which yummy treat was in each cup. We must be snack experts with super strong senses of smell because we guessed so many of them correctly! Did you know that we have tastebuds on our tongues? They help us [...]

January 31, 2017 – THE LOVE OF LITERATURE!
The LOVE OF LITERATURE starts here! Beginning in our infant class, the children are exposed to literature each and every day! Their innate thirst for knowledge is simply amazing! Even at this early stage, reading is an essential part of our day here at Square One. We aim to foster each child's natural desire to hear, see, and experience new things as they journey through each of our classes, always utilizing literature to engage them and enhance our lessons. Our Library & Technology Room gives the children the opportunity to explore books on their own, selecting topics in which they have great interest or simply choosing a book based on pictures that catch their eye. Here, they can read with their friends, finding sight words and using the pictures to create or retell the story. On the iPads, the children can work independently or as a team, using educational apps. [...]
