August 29, 2016-IT’S A ZOO IN HERE!
Summer Camp-Week 9: IT'S A ZOO IN HERE! Lions, tigers, and bears...oh my! It's been a wild week here at the zoo! We discussed all the animals we would see at the zoo and made some very creative animals right here in our classrooms! The Pre K class, created ferociously friendly lions and made panda bears using fork painting. The infant class made hand print peacocks, bears, and flamingos. We read "Z Is For Zookeeper" and learned what an important job a zookeeper has! We searched for baby zoo animals in our sensory table and talked about the animals we would see during our trip to the BC Zoo. While reading "If Anything Goes Wrong At The Zoo"", we discussed how we need to respect the animals during our visit. In yoga class, we practiced zoo animal poses and also learned the sign for "zoo" in sign language. Ask us [...]
AUGUST 22, 2016 – OLYMPICS!
Summer Camp-Week 8:THE OLYMPIC GAMES! Ready, set,...GOLD! Last week was all about the Olympic games! We discussed our favorite sports (soccer seemed to be the winner!), the opening ceremony at the Olympics, and watched a short video clip of the torch relay and cauldron lighting in Rio. We had a torch passing relay right in our classroom and made our very own torches to take home, using aluminum foil and tissue paper! We also made an Olympic ring mural using paint and paper towels rolls. We sang "Ready, Set, Sports", a catchy Olympic tune to get us ready for the "Olympic Games" set up in our indoor play area! Everyone displayed excellent sportsmanship and each of us was awarded a gold medal! We read books, such as "How To Train With A T-Rex and Win 8 Gold Medals", "G is For Gold Medal: An Olympics Alphabet", "Touch The Sky" and [...]
August 8, 2016 – Summer Carnival Party was super fun!!
Our Carnival Craze was a huge success on August 6th!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all who attended!! It was amazing to see our current students/parents interacting with one another and all the prospective families that stopped by! The kids were beaming with great big smiles as they played games where they cashed in gold coins for prizes, jumped with friends in the bouncy house, and filled their bellies with hot dogs, popcorn, and snacks galore! It was heart-warming to hear our families sharing their children's favorite memories so far here at Square One. Touring new families and allowing their children to play and explore in our classrooms was exciting as well! We look forward to more fun-filled family events with you all!
August 5, 2016 – UNDER THE BIG TOP
Summer Camp-Week 6: UNDER THE BIG TOP Lions, tigers, and ...clowns, oh my! It's been a lot of fun here under the big tent, learning about the different types of people, animals, and acts at the circus! We were amazed to learn about the clowns, jugglers, strong man, acrobats, and so much more! We even practiced some acrobatic moves and circus animal poses in Yoga class! Books like "Circus Caps For Sale", "Clifford Goes To The Circus", "Circus", and "You see A Circus, I See..."captivated us and made us feel like we were right there in the stands under the big top! We learned to sign "circus", "lion", "elephant", and "dog". We enjoyed showing the toddlers these signs when they visited our classroom. You could hear us singing "I am walking Through The Circus" during circle time and as we walked through the hallways. Best of all, we had [...]
July 29, 2016 – MAD SCIENCE
Summer Camp-Week 5: MAD SCIENCE Our week was filled with experiments and discoveries! Using bubbles and straws, we conducted an art experiment! We created Epsom salt paintings, which was a class favorite! And our very own garden was planted...we can't wait to watch our flowers and veggies grow! We discussed what our Earth is made of: solids, liquids, and gas and increased our scientific vocabulary as we read throughout the week, learning words like nocturnal and echolocation. While reading "Curious George Discovers The Senses", we explored our 5 senses. "The Science Song", which we sang all week, taught us about hibernation, evaporation, gravity, and metamorphosis. We also had a visit from "Mad Science" who took us on an exploration of space! We tried on astronaut gloves and made our very own slime!! What a BLAST!!!
