ST. PATRICK’S DAY WEEK had our Irish eyes smiling! We learned all about St. Patrick, Ireland, shamrocks, and the pesky little leprechaun man 
🙂. While the big snow storm put a damper on the roads, we loved our snow day, did our own little weather predictions, and made our own rainbows by the pot of gold. A little snow was not going to put a damper on our fun and learning!!
This week we learned so many fun facts! Did you know that rainbows are actually round and we cannot see the bottom half because of the horizon, that the national color of Ireland is green because of all the beautiful scenery or that the people in Ireland eat corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, and Irish soda bread on St. Patrick’s Day!
Although, some of us aren’t Irish we honored the holiday by listening to Celtic music the whole week and making amazing Irish crafts. We made rainbows with a pot of gold with our fingers or our hands, created silly shamrock people that we enjoyed dancing with, made leprechaun masks of paper plates and paint, played with our St. Pat’s Day Sensory Gold Coin soup, used marshmallows to stamp green circles in the form of shamrocks, painted our Irish flags, used fruit loops to sort the colors and make our fruit loop rainbow, made contact paper shamrocks, and lots of green hats!
Throughout all the St. Patrick fun, we continued to work on our Phonics, Math, Handwriting skills, sign language, and sensory activities. We practiced our -ee and -or sounds, looked for our sight words hiding within St Patrick’s books, continued to learn to write our names, counted the gold coins and matched them to the correct numbers, learned to sign all done, green, and rainbow, and did many sensory activities that involved snow with a touch of gold and green 🙂.
And of course we continued to feed our love of reading with a ton of book following our theme. We read books like “St. Patrick’s Day’ by Gail Gibbons, “Bamboo and friends: The Rainbow”, “There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Clover!” by Lucille Colando, “Jack and the Leprechaun” by Ivan Robertson, ,It’s St. Patrick’s Day, Dear Dragon!” By Margaret Hillert, “St. Patrick’s Day: Day of Irish Pride” by June Preszler, “The Rainbow” by Felicia Law, “The Luck of the Irish” by Margaret McNamara, “Jamie O’Rourke and the Big Potato” by Tomie DePaola, “St. Patrick’s Day in the Morning” by Eve Bunting, “There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Clover” by Lucillia Colandro, “Lucky Tucker” by Leslie McGurk, “St. Patrick’s Day”, by Carmen Bredeson, “Just A Little Luck”, by Mercer Mayer….ufff that was a long list this week!!
Our song of the week was “I’m a Little Leprechaun” and everyone from our infants to pre-k enjoyed this classic. Our Infant room even had their own little St Patrick’s mini party where they all were in their green clothes, their green hats, Celtic music, and a lot of clapping and wiggling our tushies 🙂
