APPLES WEEK made us think a lot about one of our favorite snacks…and made us very hungry! We listed our favorite types such as Macintosh, Granny Smith, Honey Crisp, And Golden Delicious. We talked about apple picking trips and how there are so many varieties. The list we made of things we can make with apples was impressive!
We read “It’s Apple-Picking Time”, “Applesauce Season”, “Apple Pie Tree”, “Apples A-Z”, and “Fall Apples-Crisp and Juicy”, all of which had our bellies growling. Lucky for us, we had an apple tasting…yummy!! We were eager to try new apples we hadn’t ever had before; green, red, and yellow ones!
Our creativity was in high gear this week! Who knew we could PAINT with apples?! We made apple prints, our favorite apples using tissue paper, Apple Jacks apple trees, and made apples come to life by creating apple people! Even the babies enjoyed using apples for art and applesauce for sensory activities!
Our toddlers did their apple dance using real red apples. The Pre K class sang “A-P-P-L-E” (to the tune of Bingo) and “All Around The Apple Tree”. Of course, we added the word apple to our sign language list as well!
Focus was on the letters A and I in some of our classes. The Inky Mouse song helped the Pre K with their I work this week. They were carefully practicing their handwriting and letter/sound recognition throughout the week. Our Preschoolers worked on letter A and wow, they are doing great with their pencil grip!
They also worked on their cutting skills by trying to cut their way straight from the apples.
This week was apple-solutely fun (and delicious)!
